The Nilgiris: At a media briefing in Nilgiris, the Nilgiris MP, Raja stated that it has been decided that all MLAs from the 41 regions which house explosives factories of the Defence Department will jointly meet Prime Minister Modi during the winter session of the Parliament and request to halt the privatisation of these factories.
In India, there are 41 defense explosives factories owned by the Ministry of Defense. It includes 11 factories that manufacture ammunition, and six factories in Aruvankadu near Coonoor, Trichy and in Avadi, near Chennai. The Government recently decided to privatise these factories.

The Unions have staged various protests demanding that the Centre abandon its decision of privatising these factories. In this regard, the employees of the Cordite factory in Aravankadu invited MP Raja for a meeting to speak to the employees and Unions.
MP Raja also added that in light of the cordial relations between the State and Central Governments, the old Hindustan Photo Films should be considered to be converted into a medical college.
